Notes on Some Teachers:

Mr. Carl Franz—He appears in the Conference Yearbook Directory as a teacher for the year 1935. Yearbooks 1931, 1932, 1935, 1936, 1938, 1940, 1941, and 1948 are the only early books available in Portland. He came to Woodstock from Union Springs, NY. When he left here he married in Washington, D.C. and taught school in Dallas, TX.

The Shaws—David I. Served as pastor at the Woodstock Church in 1964 during its Centennial and continued until in this position until his retirement. He served as our 2nd teacher for six consecutive years from 1935-1941. He came to Woodstock in 1933(?) from Cliff Island. He served as our School Chairperson: 1966-67, 68-70. The SDA Yearbook lists him as serving as a Conference licensed minister in 1946, 47; an ordained minister in 1948, 49, 69; and a Conference teacher in 1932, 35, 36, 38, 40, 41, 42, 43. He had a great love for the outdoors. He was an artist and made many paintings and drawings on things he had seen in nature. A small booklet of some of his work has been published. His wife, Blanche, served as our teacher for a total of eight years: from 1950-1954 and 1959-1963. (Did David serve as our pastor while she was a teacher here?) She served as our Home & School Leader during the year 1970-71. The SDA Yearbook lists Blanche as a Conference teacher for the following years: 1935, 47, 48, 51, 52, 53, 54, 61, and 63. He served as Conference Youth Director for a number of years. The Camp Lawroweld Lodge is named after him.

Mr. Adelbert Z. Bowen—He appears in the Conference Yearbook Directory as a teacher for the years 1940 and 1941. He taught school at Curtis Hill from 1938 to about 1941 and again from 1950-1953.

Miss Lillian Eastman—She appears in the Conference Yearbook Directory as a teacher for the year 1936.

Mrs. Violet Hall—She appears in the Conference Yearbook Directory as a teacher for the year 1938, 1940, and 1941.

Mrs. Bernal Thurlow—She appears in the Conference Yearbook Directory as a teacher for the year 1931.

The Twings—A Mrs. Walter C. Twing appears in the Conference Yearbook Directory as a teacher for the year 1931. Could she be related?
